Voters in Clacton-on-Sea will head to the polls on August 13 in a parliamentary by-election triggered by the resignation of Reform UK leader Nigel Farage.
A total of 34 candidates are standing in the contest. A full list of candidates appears at the bottom of this article.
This figure surpasses the previous record for a parliamentary by-election, which stood at 26 candidates in the 2008 Haltemprice and Howden by-election. It also exceeds the record for a general election contest, which was 13 candidates in the Richmond and Northallerton seat in 2024 (Rishi Sunak’s constituency).
It is important to note that all major political parties have boycotted the by-election, describing it as a stunt orchestrated by Nigel Farage.
