Keir Starmer has delivered his final speech as Prime Minister and officially resigned today.
After winning the general election on 4 July 2024, he served just over two years in Downing Street. This morning he spoke outside No. 10, telling colleagues and civil servants gathered around him that his work was done and describing his time in office as a success.
He then travelled to Buckingham Palace to tender his resignation to the King.
Andy Burnham is set to become the next Prime Minister – the 59th in British history – and is expected to take office later today.
