MPs have rejected a Conservative motion to refer Prime Minister Keir Starmer to the Privileges Committee over allegations that he may have misled Parliament.
The motion was defeated by 112 votes, with 223 MPs voting in favour of referring Mr Starmer and 335 voting against.
Labour whipped its MPs to oppose the motion, meaning those who defied the whip were expected to lose it. Fifteen Labour MPs rebelled — a number that Labour sources described to GB Politics as “unprecedented”.
The rebels are expected to lose the whip, which would further reduce the government’s working majority and weaken the Prime Minister’s authority, intensifying calls for his resignation.
The Labour MPs who voted for the motion were:
- Apsana Begum
- Richard Burgon
- Ian Byrne
- Mary Kelly Foy
- Imran Hussain
- Brian Leishman
- Emma Lewell
- Rebecca Long Bailey
- Andy McDonald
- John McDonnell
- Graham Morris
- Luke Myer
- Kate Osbourne
- Cat Smith
- Nadia Whittome
